FAQs
What is the difference between a coach and a counsellor? What is the difference between a coach and a consultant or mentor? What sort of things do people achieve through coaching? Why would I work with a coach? Can I only book 1 or 2 sessions instead of booking for a full 12 session programme? | Answers:
Counselling deals with emotional issues that an individual is struggling with and that are having a detrimental effect in their life. It goes into depth about various issues, usually dealing with the past. By contrast, a coach works with a mentally and emotionally robust individual to help them get more out of life. Coaching does not rely on past issues for achieving growth, but on goals for the future. It is action-oriented and focuses primarily on the present and future. Consultants and mentors usually specialise in a certain area and are employed to offer advice and provide solutions to specific problems. Coaches help the client to discover their own insights and create strategies and actions that work for them. Coaching is about enabling the individual to create new habits that continue after the coaching programme ends. Here are a few of the sorts of things people achieve through coaching: - A sustainable, profitable business - More money in the bank - More quality time with your friends and family - Having a clear strategic business plan - The career you always dreamed about - Being a better manager - Saving for the car/house/trip you dream about - being more assertive/honest/open There are many reasons why someone would want to work with a coach: - Something at stake (a challenge, stretch goal or opportunity), and it is urgent, compelling or exciting - A gap in knowledge, skills, confidence, or resources - A desire to accelerate results - A lack of clarity, and there are choices to be made - Work and life are out of balance, and this is creating unwanted consequence - To need to identify your core strengths and how best to leverage them. In our experience to create sustainable changes & habits 3 months working with a coach is the minimum term, with 6 months being optimal. However, specific one-off challenges can be easily handled in one or a few sessions. So the best option is for us to discuss your situation, find out exactly what you want to get out of coaching, and then we can let you know the best approach and whether or not a single session is likely to work. |
